Terms of Service

Effective July 19, 2026 · Consumer Transparency Collective, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit

The short version: Defund Whatever offers information and opinions to help you shop by your values. Analyses combine cited public data with AI estimates — they're a starting point for your own judgment, not a statement of fact about any company. Be decent, don't abuse the service, and make your own decisions.

1. Who we are and what this is

The Defund Whatever app and website (the "Service") are operated by the Consumer Transparency Collective ("CTC", "we"), a Missouri nonprofit corporation. By using the Service you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

2. What our analyses are — and are not

3. Your account

4. Fair use of a free service

We're a nonprofit running real computing costs so this can stay free for most people. Daily analysis limits apply per tier. You agree not to circumvent limits, scrape or bulk-query the Service, resell access, probe or disrupt our infrastructure, or use the Service for unlawful purposes. We may throttle or suspend access that threatens the Service's sustainability or security.

5. Paid plans and donations

Paid plans (Supporter, Champion, Sustainer). Optional monthly plans raise your daily scan limit. In the iOS app they are auto-renewable subscriptions sold through Apple's App Store: payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase, and the subscription renews automatically each month at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel it in your App Store account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you've paid for. Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple under its policies. Plans bought on our website are processed by Stripe and can be cancelled at any time, effective at the end of the current billing period. A plan is linked to your Defund Whatever account. Plan purchases pay for a service and are not tax-deductible donations.

Donations. Gifts made on our website to the Consumer Transparency Collective, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, are processed by Stripe and are generally not refundable, but if something went wrong, email us — we're reasonable.

6. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, and content we author, belongs to CTC or its licensors. Third-party data remains subject to its own licenses (for example, Wikidata content under CC0). Brand names and trademarks that appear in analyses belong to their respective owners; their appearance does not imply any affiliation or endorsement.

7. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ACCURACY, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CTC WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY DECISION YOU MAKE BASED ON THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF $50 OR THE AMOUNT YOU DONATED IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM.

8. Changes and termination

We may update the Service and these terms; material changes will be reflected by the effective date above and, where appropriate, notice in the app. We may discontinue the Service (we hope not to). You may stop using it at any time.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Missouri.
